Electric Utilities

The City of Lumberton (EUD) operates its own electric distribution system consisting of over 32 miles of power lines. The City has been in the electric business for over 100 years, providing reliable service to over 10,000 customers. This service is provided by a crew of approximately 29 employees who perform line installations and repairs, SCADA operations, metering functions, tree services, and administration of our system. The City of Lumberton is a member of ElectriCities of North Carolina, the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency, and the North Carolina Association of Municipal Electric Systems. ElectriCities is a not-for-profit government service organization representing cities, towns, and universities that own electric distribution systems. Today, ElectriCities represents more than 90 members in North Carolina (including Lumberton), South Carolina, and Virginia.  We are one of 191 utilities that have been recognized in the nation to earn Reliable Public Power (RP3).  The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines:

  • Reliability
  • Safety
  • Training
  • System Improvement
